Project description: Project RECONFIGURABLE LIGHT ELECTRIC VEHICLE, REFLECTIVE, will develop and demonstrate a novel concept for a distributed and modular fully electric vehicle (FEV) combining compact size and design for purposes. The design proposed by REFLECTIVE is scalable, going from L7 (heavy quadri-cycles) vehicles up to small and light M1/A vehicles, flexible, going from passenger transportation to good transportation in last-mile delivery, and rightsized for a mission for supreme energy efficiency. REFLECTIVE aims at developing next generation electric vehicles for urban and suburban use, starting from heavy quadricycle application with flavours of slow and light M1/A category vehicle. The focus is on the development of a modular powertrain to cover different platforms, which may serve as basis for a multitude of vehicles, allowing the passage from persons to goods transportation throughout reconfigurable interiors and from one vehicle category to the other with minimum modifications on the powertrain, thanks to its intrinsic modularity.  In addition, REFLECTIVE aims at improving the safety level of small vehicles in order to increase their appeal and expand their diffusion in urban areas. The adoption of safe, eco-friendly, and network-connected vehicles can guarantee the reduction of local traffic, improvement of air quality in urban areas, and optimisation of parking slots distribution, with apparent benefits for social, economic and environmental aspects. REFLECTIVE also aims at providing an efficient and versatile charging strategy in order to overtake possible issues related to weak infrastructures, which is limiting the market penetration of FEVs.

Purpose: Design and implementation of a modular powertrain for scalability; Vehicle design for structural safety and flexibility (reconfigurable interiors); Automated features and charging for active safety and enhanced usability (ADAS systems); Promoting market uptake of L-class vehicles in urban/suburban areas.

Results: Realize a ready to market L-class vehicle; Guarantee 4/5 stars at EuroNCAP evaluation for a L-class vehicle; Improve safety perception to the end-user; Implement innovative charging strategies.
